Video from group n° 067
Welcome to the webpage of group 067[modifier | modifier le wikicode]
The topic we have decided to explore is the following :
As world pupulation growths, enhancing agriculutral production is a key issue. Nevertheless, mass production is usig pesticides end ends up being harmful for our environenment and for small producers which seem unable to cope with such a compeition. Mass production tirggered a war on price small producers can't tackle with their home grown production.

Our paper[modifier | modifier le wikicode]
During this group project we went into many fields in order to find key problems that crucial breakthroughs could eventually fix. We got interested in agricultural issues: the need to tackle world hunger, to provide healthy food, to protect small organic producers and to protect the environment.
What triggered us was that we could find many tech-firms aiming to disrupt the way producers work by giving them new solutions of yield management backed this time with big-data. This could allow small farmers to maximize their production and to reduce the negative impact they have on the environment. Indeed, this type of solution could help them to know exactly what is the quantity of pesticides necessary, what is the best moment to irrigate…
Of course we didn't want to speak about one specific solution but this was a good start. We could imagine mobile applications analysing data sent by sensors all over your farm, sent by financial markets or global weather news platform. Costs of data storage and data analysis are crumbling down. We thought that it may be time for small organic producers to get back on the race by getting solutions that used to be big firms' very own.
These new solutions are a really hot topic nowadays, a tech start-up about agricultural big-data won the last Disrupt championship in San Francisco, many venture funds specialized in agri-tech are rising such as CapAgro.
We thought it would be a nice idea to try to hop in this new movement and to try to get new solutions with the help of Oslantis. We spoke about it with small organic producers (that were our targets) and all agreed about their lack of means and could imagine such new digital solutions helping them to be way more efficient.
When firms have armies of agronomical engineers, small organic producers need alone to combine many constraints (when they should deliver, when should they seed). We wanted them to combine these constraints and get the most from it. With the help of new digital solutions.
We thought that experts could tell us the exact needs of producers and try to provide a digital solution combining them all. We tried on our own to understand the real problems of small organic producers and it was mainly about their inability to be efficient in an ever more complex market with uncertainty about yield, with the price war with big retailers and so on.
We thought there were indeed crucial problems but maybe the new big-data trend was a nice opportunity to get new exciting solutions, it would have been our first step forward.
